I know that sugar in the gas tank will really screw up an engine but can someone tell me what I'll have to replace for a little amount of money so I can keep my truck on the road while my 390 is being built? Any help would be greatly appreciated. mike
Sugar in your gas tank won't cause any more problems that clogged filters and the need to have your tank flushed. Sugar is not soluble in gasoline and will just sink to the bottom of the tank. Of course, it could cause problems if you don't have any fuel filters....
:P
Thank you so much I really do enjoy hearing that. Someone had told me that putting sugar in the gas will crystalize the rings and valve seats, is there any truth to that? I haven't done anything to the truck yet but this weekend I plan on changing the oil, spark plugs and cleaning out the fuel tank, lines and filter. Is there anything else I should change or clean out? thanks again for the info. I sure thought I would be in the market for an other used engine after this happened to me. Mike.
WELL I KNOW OF A LOT OF OTHER THINGS THAT CAN REALLY MESS UP A TRUCK ALSO, BUT SINCE THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME FOR THE SECOND TIME I REALLY THINK THIS IS A CHICKEN :-XO9 WAY OF GETTING THEIR ANGER OUT. BESIDES IF I DO EVER FIND OUT WHO DID IT THEY HAD BETTER MAKE SURE THEIR INSURANCE POLICY IS PAID UP. BUT AT LEAST THERE IS SOME LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL, HOPEFULLY EVERYTHING WILL BE OK. MIKE.
Mike, please do not type in all caps. It is considered yelling. Sorry to hear about the sugar man. That sucks. I have a locking gas cap on my truck. That might be an idea for preventing it again. Hope everything comes out okay!
Well I changed everything out and the only thing that I can see that could possibly be wrong is that I have a new lifter tick that wasn't there before. I bought the motor a few months ago so I really don't know to much about it, but I do know it wasn't there before the sugar was added. One good thing about the whole deal is that I had a second fuel filter on it that I had on it from the previous 390 cause it had an electric fuel pump, so it had to go through 2 fuel filters. I think maybe a compression test might be in order. thanks for the help ratsmoker. Mike
