Flat towing my 06 Explorer

I read the owners manual about flat towing my 2006 XLT Explorer 4x4. It says to install a neutral switch.

Has anyone flat towed an Explorer?

Is a dolly a better way to go instead of flat towing?

Do you have any suggestions?

We are going from PA to Daytona and don't want to get there and have any problems.

I am assuming you are referring to pulling it behind and RV as a towalong? If this is the case, it is probably because the vehicle has an AWD system which could be damaged . Personally, I don't like the idea of wearing out the wheel bearings, and other components when the vehicle isn't actually being driven. I would rather pull it on a small trailer made for this purpose. But thats just me, I don't have an RV and haven't priced out what these small trailers cost. They would have to have brakes, and all the required safety features.

A dolly isn't going to help, because the rear wheels will still be on the ground turning. Like Bear said, get a trailer (no extra wear) or install a neutral tow switch.
