Help me out guys. Is it just me or do Fords have a lot of problems? I have had my 97 150 xlt sc 4x4 for about 4 years and not sure if I am too picky. I realize that maintanence is required which I do regularly. However, things like possible U joint replacement, or rear end, or transimission, or noises in front and rear, all the time, leaking windows, cracks in doors, brakes drums and disks won't stay true etc etc etc. Should we expect more? are we paying for the name? I love Ford and I use my truck on and off road but I was just wondering if I should expect the type reliability you get from Asian car companies? Set me straight!
Gee, it seems like too many major problems to me, and I haven't had *those* problems, but I *did* have to have a simple (but important!) Pitman arm replaced at only 18K miles and, especially since there were quite a few 'pitman arm problem' posts, my comment would be that there should be better quality control over the important parts of the truck. Trans, Engine, Steering, Drivetrain, etc. I do like the truck a lot, though, and am glad I've not been unlucky as some, like yourself, seem to have been.
Now, someone back awhile posted that there are millions of trucks out there and there are relatively few posts reporting major problems compared to that number, and that other makes are at least just as trouble prone. That may be, but some of the posts on this board scare me into having me check more frequently that I normally would for things like cylinder head oil leaks, antifreeze leaks into the coils, transmission shift pattern changes, door cracks and the like. Oh, well.
I realize this didn't really answer your question, sorry.
