You really shouldn't see much of a spark at the points, so I would suspect your condensor. 6v condensors are highly suspect these days. (or are you 12v?) What is the point gap? Has it been set? Is the rotor seated correctly?

hey ross i have checked point gap and the spark i get is when i put in a screw driver and open points fire flies off of screw driver. i was 6 volt until now i have installed a 12 volt battery it rolls over much faster. ive also tried 12 volt coil with no luck.and yes ive tried different rotors. now im going to try 12 volt condensor

but thanks big time with taking time to help me

no start

I've seen dist. caps ark to ground on the inside of the cap. Sounds like a good spark at the points says the capacitor is working, but it's a low cost item to replace. If the coil is ok and the input voltage is correct. Dist. area mostly likely problem area. Have a great day, chuck

That doesn't really mean the points are closing all the way when on the heel of the dizzy cam. Hook a 12v light bulb across the coil-to-distributor post to ground. If the points are working correctly the light bulb will flash on and off as the points open and close. You can also run a jumper wire from that terminal to ground and make-and-break the ground connection, while watching the coil's high-tension wire to see if the coil sparks when you do that. If it does, then the points are the problem. It's rare but sometimes the tungsten pads on the points get corroded between the tungsten and the metal arm they are mounted to, and won't conduct. (Seems like it wouldn't spark when you stick the screwdriver in there, tho). If the power from the coil to the points is continually grounded, due to missing insulator or something, you won't get spark either.
