I have a set of ceramic coated manifolds, y pipe and both up pipes at the house. On the up pipe that goes to the EGR cooler I cut off the elbow patched the hole so its now smooth (so no more EGR flow). I might be installing these in a couple weeks or so and I was wondering when I put that delete pipe on do I have to plug (cover the hole) the cooler?
I don't think it will hurt anything because air is usually forced into the cooler and circulates and that's it unless you bust it.
Yes it is recommended to plug the hole, since coolant is still flowing through the EGR cooler, if the cooler leaks you will have coolant running out of the motor. If the hole is plugged, then the coolant is still contained in the EGR cooler and no driving issues will occur. A freeze plug will fit in the hole IIRC.
^^^ ive had puking problems and will be installing ARP studs i also have the sct with egr delete opt. My ? is will i still have the same problem if i dont block off the egr pipe.

Thanks.
So I need to get a freeze plug from the dealership and I shout be good?
now just a question because im new to the diesel world, but I was talking to matt at spartan about deleting the egr cooler and from what i understand if you disconnect the exhaust pipe to the cooler, and you have a cooler leak, the motor can suck coolant into the intake, if I understood him right.
So wouldn't plugging it just pressurize it from the motor heat and force even more coolant into the motor?
just my 2 cents but im sure im mistaken

No it cannot, the coolant can only enter the cylinders from an EGR cooler leak if the EGR valve is opened to allow flow into the intake manifold and cylinders.

You will still have the high heat problem do to the exhaust gas in the EGR cooler, which leads to higher water temps and oil temps. Get the EGR up-pipe delete and install it when you do the head studs.

and reroute the coolant lines around the egr cooler while you're at it.
remember not to just cap them off, as you need this flow of coolant since it has other duties to perform besides the egr ...
thanks for all the info hopefully i can talk the dealer into it if not i'll have to do it myself.
Seriously dought you'll get a dealer to do that. It's against the Fed Laws to mess with the emissions system, but it's not that difficult to do it yourself.
