Head set-up

I am looking to put new heads on my 1973 f100 with 390 due to the valve seats being wore out.I am not using the old heads due to them just being plain wore out.So I am going to get a different set and have them reworked. What kind of set up could I put on them to get more horses.I wont have a lot of cash but since I will be having them done I figured I could set them up for a little more than stock for not a whole lot more money. In the futer I will get adjustible rockers. But I do not want to change the cam out because mine is in great condition. Also what are stainless steel valves what is the advantage to these.

Jon, may I suggest you get a set of heads and have them serviced at a good machine shop. Usually a three way valve grind is good enough. Engines with worn out heads are very likely to need bearings and rings as well. Starting with the heads is OKAY but you should plan on an engine overhaul. If you need to drive the truck everyday, look for a good running engine and rebuild that, then on a weekend install it in the truck. This way you can budget for your repairs, take your time and learn all about the process. A good book for reference is How to Rebuild Big Block Ford Engines by Steve Christ. The book is for sale on this site. Post back, we can help!
