pretty much a disaster

i noticed my truck was blowing whitish/blue smoke today merging onto the interstate

i took it to a guy's shop that has his own little thing with a couple of guys that i regularly stop up at, they are diesel gurus

the powerstroke guy of the shop drove in from wherever he lives and he just took off the intake and checked the turbo wheel, which was nice and tight

he then cleaned the EGR and he rerouted the hose to exit by the framerail under my drivers seat instead of back into the intake like ford designed it, he plugged the open hole in the intake by tapping the hole and putting a pipe plug in it; he also happened to crack this white screwing the pipe plug into it but fixed it with a plastic epoxy like material

now my truck lets out a steady small stream of white smoke from under the truck where he put that tube and he said it will occasionally drip oil but its fine

however, my truck is still blowing white smoke just like before but now ive got the stupid tube issue to deal with plus a $120 bill for 2 hours work and materials and im lost what to do . . . im going to call the guy tomorow and try to work something out that isnt ripping me off and im probably not going back for work there

does anyone have any suggestions or any ideas why my truck is blowing white smoke upon acceleration from time to time

thanks
nic

Well, that tube sounds like the ccv mod. Do a search for it and you will see a lot of people here have done it.

How cold is it where you are at? Lots of white smoke points to glow plugs and/or relay. There is a thread dedicated to that. Here:

DO NOT GO BACK THERE FOR ADDITIONAL WORK. he just charged you $120 for the CCV mod and didn't even give you the 4" piece of pipe to delete the ccv intake. this is a $12 mod at most. It will have nothing to do with the WHT/BLUE smoke coming from exhaust. wht/ blue is water/ and or oil or fuel.

Look here for what he did for you http://guzzle.rbmicro.com/ccv1.html

this write up shows a trap that you can build with hardware store parts to catch and condensing oil vapor and stop the drip.

Sounds like a fair price for services rendered.
No offence to the people on the list, but some people just need to stay out from under the hood. Thier talents are simply stronger in other areas, and IMO they have the potential to break the dipstick handle just by checking the oil.
And I really mean this in the most polite way possible.

And that's where I have a good job, working for those people. They gladly pay me to keep thier hands clean and I in turn give them a vehicle that they can depend on to get them where they need to go.

I agree 100%. Thats why I dont do my own taxes, my accountant will get his hands messy for a nominal charge. Now thats not to mean that I don't go back and check his work. I know how to do it, I just prefer for him to actually do it.

as long as it was explained to the customer that, "we are going to try this first, it may not cure your smoke on accel, but if it doesn't then you have a mod that brings the engine back closer to its original design" then I am fine . If that was not explained then this guy may just be shotgunning the problem.

I see what you are saying now with more clarity.
Yes, communication BEFOREHAND is the key to a successful job and the difference between a satisified customer and someone who is now pissed at you.
Sometimes at work I feel that I don't get anything done all day but an oil change and the rest of the time is spent on the phone.

I know what you mean, I spend some days trying to "herd a pack of cats to go for swim" . but hey, they are customers, and you and I can't live without them.

it reroutes the oil mist thats going into our turbo and intercooler and blows the haze out underneath your truck or whereever you want into the atmoshpere and not causing you intercooler boots to blow off.
