I just purchased a 2002 F250 4x4 5.8 liters V8 truck with 156,000 miles. Can you please tell me what maintenance is recommended? Should I change things like engine oil and filter, tranny oil and filter, fuel filter, etc. Shoud I change spark plugs, belts? Do you recommend to use syntethic oil for engine and tranny? I am planning to keep this truck for a long time and want to keep it running the best I can with the help of friends from this forum. Thanks!
Yes, to all the questions above. When I purchase a used truck or car I do all of the above because then you can start a record of what is used and when it was done. Most folks don't service the tranny regularly, me personnaly I service mine around 30 to 40,000 miles regularly. I would also rec. getting it up on a rack or at least jack stands ans checking the front end real well, eapecially the ball-joints & tierod ends. Can't ans. about the synthetics, I have 225.000 miles on my 97 and I use high mileage Castrol oil. Someone else will jump in on the synthetics. I also changed plugs, wires, fuel, PVC, etc. If it can be replaced I replace it. Then you know!

The driver side power window is stuck on the up position and does not come down... I will search the forum for some ideas to troubleshoot and fix this problem. Thanks again

+1.
Don't forget to service the differentials too. My '97 F250LD SC 4x4 has 225,000 miles on it too. But that's it for me with it. I've been towing too much and too far with it, so it is getting replaced this weekend with an '03 F250SD V10 crew 4x4.
I guess you could just run it for awhile with proper fluid levels before you start putting some money and time into it (if all goes well). Do like Half Breed says, "if it can be replaced, replace it". I'd save that plug job till last if it's running okay.
The other thing we'd recommend is pulling an Oasis report if you have not already done so. This will give you some history of the truck and what service has been done to it. Perhaps posting in the 6.0 forum will help you with this.
