52 F1 Column shift removal
In a previous post you guys helped me figure out how to remove the tranny from my old parts truck. Today I took it to the local tranny shop for an overhaul. Thanks for all you help.
Now I need to remove the column shifter.
My driveable truck has the upper mount behind the steering wheel still in place, it's just missing the shift rod and handle. On my parts truck it looks as though the handle is pinned to the shift rod and indexes into a depression in the upper mount to give the push/pull on the shift rod.
My question is this, what's the best way to remove the pin holding the shift handle into the shift rod? Do I just use a small punch and drive it back through? I'm hoping to do as little damage as possible and drilling the pin out just doesn't seem like a fun way to spend a sunday.
Any tips?
Thanks,
AJ
