I've heard you won't get a huge power gain out of the handheld devices, but some people have said that you can get better mileage, change shift points, change your speedo for larger tires? What are some of your opinions?
i have the superchips unit and it is capable of all that. the little power gain is decent, but as you said the transmission characteristics are what i liked most.
i'm getting about 12mpg with 35's, 4.10 gears, intake, exhaust, and the 91 octane program. bone stock i was 12-13.
I only have larger tires, so I'd like to get my speedo corrected as well as maybe a little bit of a performanc gain. I may thrown on a muffler that flows better but not anytime really soon.
I just ordered a DiabloSport Predator U7155 for my '05 F250. It is supposed to have all capabilities such as changing shift points, tire sizes, gear ratio, rev limiter, and has tunes for regular, mid-grade and premium. Also has performance and tow modes. Hopefully it will perform like it was advertised. Cost was $299USD.
It has lots of user adjustable parameters plus you can get custom tunes done for it. Priced right for the capabilities I was looking for.

I have an 04 and I have the superchip. Extremely happy with the shifting, and the way I can change the speedo for my larger tires. You can use their setting or do your own settings. About the same time I got the chip I also went from 31 to 33 in tires. I get the same milage so I guess they just offset each other. I still get 12-13 all the time when empty.
I have a little more power than stock. I bought it more to help me when towing our 20' goosneck livestock trailer and 30' flatbed. I can definatley tell it tows better. I leave my chip set in tow/mode almost all the time.
Hope this helps.
I don't hear of many people on this site using hypertech. Most have superchip or Troyer Xcal, but you will pay more getting Troyer but you will get more too.
I also have the SuperChips. I've run in all three modes (87 octane, performance and tow), and 87 octane just doesn't really do anything that I could tell. The tow mode didn't really help my towing out much...maybe a little...but it really did wonders for the shift points. That thing shifted so smoothly it was like night and day. The performance mode doesn't do much unless I use 93 octane. With 89 (the mid-grade), If I "get on it", the engine will knock. But with the 93, it gets up and scoots. As for mileage, in my one short trial run in tow mode, with my camper, and 93 octane, I did see a about a 1 1/2 mpg increase (from 9 to about 11.5). But keep in mind that was a short trip, and I certainly wouldn't want to jump to any conclusions based on that. In the other modes, there is no significant increase or decrease in mileage. I do have the option to change for tire size and rear-end change, but unfortunately, it doesn't have a setting for a 4.30 rear end, which I will be changing to. I think this is because this was not an option on a 5.4L. Oh well, watcha gonna do!
I use the Superchips 1815... it deffinitely is better then stock i use 91+ octane and have used both tow mode and performance mode. i usually leave it in tow mode all the time. same mileage 12-14 mpg it seems no matter what.
havnt used any of the tire settings but i did raise the speed limiter for what thats worth.
I'll let you know - it should be here in a couple of weeks - got to love the delays in getting something shipped to Canada from the good ol USA. (but the best price here was $500 USD) Worth the 2 week delay, duty, and the taxes for that much difference!!
