Bob, I don't think just knowing bed sizes will give you all the info you need. They probably are pretty much the same, but the profile of the cab, tailgate, etc. will be different. I think your best bet will be to go to the cap manufacturers sites, like www.leer.com or www.4are.com and check their fitment charts. That will give you a good idea of where the bodystyle breaks are. It will also give you good model info so you know the value of a particular unit.

Someone else here can probably tell you when the major Ford body changes were made.

Good luck,
Bill

99-07 Super Duty Beds are all the same (assuming the same length). I sold the topper from my 99 to a buddy at work with an 06 and it fits fine (I went from a shortbed to a longbed or I would have kept it).

thanks i've been to the various cap manufact. web sites but they purposley leave out model # and any cross reference. i'm looking at a cap off of an92 f 350 and i was wondering how close the measurements of the beds were . if they're close enough you may not notice any difference. the cap is in beautiful condition & it' s only 100.00. the only other thing would be the contour of the cabs. i might have to take a short drive and putthe cap on the truck

I don't think that a cap (or topper as they are called around here) from a 92 truck is going to fit right on your 03. I believe that the angle of the back of the cab has changed, and the lengths of the beds are slightly different. Also the 99-07 super duty bed is somewhat tapered, and I don't know how well and older style topper would fit on the bed rails. I guess if it's close enough it doesn't hurt to try though.

As usual, Beerstalker is spot on. The Leer chart shows their model fits 1999-2007. If it fit earlier models I'm sure they would say so. http://www.leer.com/fordmodel19.html

for a hundred bucks.....it's worth a try! You could probably get at least $300 for it after it doesn't fit. (Beerstalker is right)
