I posted a few days ago about my engine revving and the rear slipping which seems to do it together. I'm convinced the rear clutches are going which is causing my rear noise. Not good there. I'm also convinced the two are separate issues. What I would like some help on is the intermittent revving issue. It will rev high whether it's in gear or park. When it's doing in drive the transmission will rev till about 3000-3500 rpms and hold before it shifts. Once again this problem is intermittent. I would think to rule out the transmission because it revs in park. My thoughts are maybe a vacuum issue. My pcv valve seems fine because I pulled it and could feel vacuum. What about the IAC valve? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
It's a 2000, 5.4 32v intech, 4x4, 86000 miles. I put plugs in back in the spring and it was doing it intermittently before then. I'm pretty on top of the scheduled maintenance stuff. It usually happens cold or warm. Sometimes it happens at cold start up. Sometimes it happens later on while driving. It will just rev to about 2000-2500 rpms in park or neutral. When it's doing this as I previously stated, in drive the tranny will rev to about 3000-3500 and hold there before it will shift. During highway speeds I can see the rpms running almost to 2000 rpms. No OD light flashing. Hope this info helps. Thanks
I'm thinking that the ECM may be getting a false signal from the transmission. The engine idle goes up to compensate for the load (Shifting from park to drive). Check the connector on the transmission for looseness and/or dirt. Other than that, the throttle position sensor may be failing. the voltage reading in it dictates what the idle air by-pass valve does.
I wanted to post some new info here about the intermittent problem I am STILL having. As posted above earlier, I have an over-revving idle issue and at the same time I have a grinding issue while turning when this is happening which I thought was the clutches in the rear. Once again these two issues always happen simultaneously. Well, the last time it happened I was on a wet road turning from a stop sign. As was turning I bumped the gas slightly and noticed the front wheel spin a little along with the grind acting as if it were in 4 wheel drive. Now I know this truck is AWD but didn't figure that to happen considering it wouldn't normally do that, at least I don't think. Then upon acceleration the truck shifts like it is a lower gear, maybe 4 low or something. This problem will continue or go away. I've done tons of searching and other than the million posts on idle issues, I haven't found any to explain mine. So, I am still confused and frustrated. My best guess right now is the computer acting strange. I have no clue. Any other ideas?
