I bought a 1998 f-150 with a blown 4.2. I bought a remanufactured 4.2, put it in, etc...
this is my problem - when I connect the battery the interior components; radio, idiot lights, fan, horn, all work but the engine won't crank. I'm trying to prime the oil pump but can't. I blow a 25 amp fuse (the one located under the hood) whenever I connect the positive cable to the battery.
I took my multimeter, set it to "tone", and touched the negative to the negative post of the battery (with the cable connected) and the positive to the positive cable, (NOT on the battery) and I got a tone. So somewhere I have a positive grounding out to something.
Have anyone experienced this? Am I overlooking something obvious with my connections?
Thank You For The Reply. For Reasons Unbeknowst To Me, The Thing Cranked For Me Last Night. I Primed The Oil Pump, Connected The Spark Plug Wires, And Varoom! It Started.
Now If Only I Can Easily Trace Where The Vacuum Lines Go To..........
Having problems here with the 4.2. Replaced the engine with another one just like it and now it is cranking weird. Starter has burned up trying to crank it. It acts like it is out of time . Checked the plugs and wires (new ones) for the correct placement and they are right. Does anyone have any idea why the engine is acting like this? What is causing it not to just crank right up? Help!!!
