I have a '76 F100 2wd with the 390. I need to replace the alternator, and im wondering if anyone has suggestions were to get a good OEM or aftermarket replacement reasonably priced? Thanks in advance.
Go to autozone. They are cheap and have a lifetime warranty. You could probably get a higher quality one from ford or napa for more money but you can't get any better than a lifetime warranty. Just my opinion.
BTW: My NAPA rebuilt failed because of poor quality, so I returned it and went to Autozone. I have had no trouble with Autozone alternators and the lifetime warranty is handy. Plus, their alternators are sometimes rated higher than the OEM.
Autozone is about the best place to find an afordable replacement. But, my suggestion is if you are having any trouble with wiring youmay want to install a 1 wire alt. That can really get rid of some clutter under the hood form all the wires and such. And, they usually work exceptionally well. I hope this helps.
You can get ford one wire alt's. You just need to know which Ford cars came with them. I think someone said something about a taurus With all power had a 130 amp one wire. I am thinking here so be careful.
Man I would hate to find out how much that altenator costs to replace A friend of mine just had to replace the altenator on her Ford Escort and it was almost 200 bucks it seems. Maybe that is just the goin rate these days. Man that sucks! Just shoot me!

Yes! Delco is a GM supplier. I use the GM 85 Amp alternator on my 66 because of my personal philosophy of making my driven daily truck technologically new without sacrificing practical originality. I enjoy my old truck and drive it every day. So for me, installing a technologically advanced one wire 85 amp charging system was an easy decision. This install was easy and really cleaned up the 36 year old wiring mess I had before. If you would like to know how to do this install go over to the electrical forum and search for Delco Alternator Install.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 27-Sep-02 AT 02:29 PM (EST)]The one wire Ford alt. is a 3G its almost the same size as your factory one and will bolt in with some wireing changes. If you want to see the wireing changes go to the B.C. Bronco web site and look in their Tech library they have a wireing diagram on just how to convert one. Sorry I dont have the web site handy just search under B.C. Bronco It should come right up. I hope this helps Leadmic
