First post here guys. This afternoon while going out hunting my truck's chime began ringing for some reason out of the ordinary. I drive a 2000 F-150 5.4L. Anyways, it chimes 5 times, pauses, then chimes 5 more times for a total of 5 sets of 5 chimes, or 25 chimes total. It only starts to chime when I put the vehicle into gear.
I know that sounds kind of goofy, but I hope you know what I am getting at.
Welcome to the board. The series of 5 chimes indicate your air bag indicator lamp in the instrument cluster has burned out. You'll have to replace the bulb to silence it.
Realizing you're new here, try using the search feature. I'll likely get you an instant answer to a lot of your questions.
Thanks. I have tried a search for the last 2 days since this problem started. I searched on here as well as other F150 forums, as well as posting the question on hunting forums, and couldn't get an answer. I guess I didn't type the right search phrase. That is why I finally registered on here to get my answer. It was much more enjoyable asking the question here than it was when I called a dealership service counter. They were not happy to speak with me!
I visit some other F150 forums too. This is by far the best place to get help. You'll have better luck with the searches once you get the hang of it here.
If you like a lot of B-S-ing the "other" board is where to be.
