Unhappy 96 Brakes pull to left

I've got a 96 2WD F150 5.0L. My brake lines were rusted out so I replaced all the brakelines to all 4 wheels, I replaced the front calipers, hoses, rotors and pads as well as the rear cylinders, drums, shoes and hardware.

The truck pulls to the left when braking. I thought it might be a bad driver side front caliper so I replaced it. This made no difference. I've tried semi-metallic and full ceramic pads and thi made no difference either.

Very frustrated. Have bled the brakes at all 4 wheels. Still pulling to left. Everything is brand new. What could be making the brakes pull to the left?

Welcome to FTE

A bad Passenger side caliper(not working right) will make it pull left.......have you looked at that one?
I'd have the rotors checked for imbalance too......it's possible the drivers side is a little thicker.....causing that brake to grab sooner....and pull.
Other than that.......I'm stymied.

Good Luck
Bob

Good call. Seems counterintuitive but that makes sense.

Does it jerk the steerwheel to the left...or...does the whole truck drift to the left ?

This is good advice. Even though you replaced them, depending on the quality of parts that you used, this is the most common culprit of a pull.

Also, worn suspension parts can cause a pull. I've seen bad radius arm bushings do this.

I'd have the rotors checked for imbalance too......it's possible the drivers side is a little thicker.....causing that brake to grab sooner....and pull.
On this.... I'll just be nice and say that you're 1 for 2 with your post.

I replaced all the rubber hoses and I even swapped out the new left rotor for a different new rotor and that did not help.

I also had the front end aligned. I don't know what's going on. I've never had a problem after replacing everything with new parts. The only thing I haven't replaced is the rear ABS prop valve. The rear ABS does not work anymore but I don't see how that could affect the pulling to the left. I'll replace that next.

When you got your alignment done did they say if any of your steering or suspension was bad? Or did they even check? If your brakes are all working properly then it has to be worn out steering or suspension.

Rear brakes can cause a pull to one side also, as well as a funny tire.
Try swapping tires from side to side is the easiest to try. First front then rear.

You guys are all helping with great suggestions. I will fix this by winter time. I will try the tire swap. The steering and tie rods all seem firm to me but I won't rule out anything.

One thing that has always concerned me is that an auto technician years ago told me that the caliper design on these Ford trucks is one that seizes and fails a lot. To that end it's almost impossible to purchase a "New" caliper, they are all remans. I spent the extra dollars and got the Raybestos calipers this time because I have had seizing caliper problems on past front break jobs.

Will keep all updated as I continue to troubleshoot.

Did it pull at all before the brake job?

Did you have your rotors turned--even the new ones? If one side is warped and the other not, it will not have as much braking power as the true rotor and the truck will pull to the side with the greater braking power. New rotors can be warped out of the box...

I still haven't heard a mention of you addressing the passenger side caliper yet. Have you looked into that?
