tune up

When I bought my escort, I put a couple hundred bucks of new parts on there, and it never gave me any trouble. Good fuel economy, starts on the first turn of the starter in all kinds of weather and I never even had to change the battery. I replaced some things that were still good cuz I figured better safe than sorry, and it's easier changing it all at once then going back and taking it all apart again.

I'm doing the same with my new truck. And I'm trying to run thru everything I need to check on my truck while I have it all taken apart.

So far I'm going to change the following while I have it in my friend's garage.

thermostat + gasket
test temp sensor
have cooling system flushed

new air filter
pcv valve
breather filter
test egr valve and vacuum line

new fuel filter
fuel pressure regulator... that's an expensive part but I feel better doing it now before I take a long trip
fuel injector o rings
test fuel pressure on both tanks

new ICM... clean heat sink.. keep old unit as backup
new distributor cap and rotor
spark plugs and wires
ignition coil
new fan belt
take alternator to autozone to test it
new pickup coil

clean the throttle body, iac valve
clean and lube the battery posts and all connections
check battery and starter cable

I'll have it all taken apart by this afternoon and go to the parts store tonight if my girlfriend lets me. So let me just ask you gentleman if you think I'm overdoing it, or if I've overlooked anything really important.

You are probably overdoing it a little, but there is nothing wrong with your plan.
