Question color sanding

Not sure if this has been asked or not. My paint is about 10 y/o and as expected has many, many coats of wax on it.
I need to color sand and buff it out and I'd like to know if I have to de-wax it first or does it matter. I'm familiar with color sanding and buffing, I just don't know about whether to de-wax 1st.

Sounds good. I've never done that, but it doesn't sound too hard.
