Im working on a 95 ranger 4X4, 4.0 engine. We swapped engines (my neighbor and me/its his truck) and he told me "it runs but rough". Last he had said was that he had a few wiring plugs that he didnt know where they went to (since I disconnected them on removal, not him) and i was gonna go over later that day to rehook em (back of the engine; O2 and trans wiring) to find out that he had all but 1 hooked up before I got there. He had gone to the junkyard and looked at another truck to figure out what went where. The one remaining was the short pink pigtail that went to the cam sensor. I spent over an hour trying to feel around behind there btw the engine and firewall to figure out where it went. 1 look at the old engine and that mystery was solved. Problem is that the sensor was busted off probably from when the replacement engine was removed from its orig vehicle (junkyard hack type removal- not by us). So, I removed the whole sensor assembly from the old engine with intentions of putting it in the replacement engine. The sensor mount housing was screwed up so that eliminated the idea of swapping "just the sensor". I pulled the top 1/2 of the intake and got in there with a slide hammer since the sensor mount was seized in so tight, I'm assuming the O ring is hanging up. Busted the rest of the sensor mount, so now Ive gotta pull the rest of the intake so I can get some access room to get a pair of Vise grips on the shank of the sensor mount (looks like the base of a distributor) and twist it loose. Anyway, I need to know how to "time" the sensor to the cam gear. Is it like my Ram where I gotta run it with a scanner connected and rotate the housing to "set sync"?
There is a plastic window on the sensor with marks on it and when rotating the sensor shaft, there is a orange/red mark on it. I'm surprised the engine even started at all w/o the cam sensor hooked up!
