I have a 2001 f-250 with the V-10
for the last few weeks the truck has trouble starting. It will fire but have no gas in the lines to stay on then stall. it would take it a few times before it started normaly. It dosent happen everytime and it dosent matter what time of the day it is. Any suggestions?
Don't know your model but my guess woul dbe that one or more check valve in the line is failing and allowing the fuel system to depressurize and drain the fuel back into the tank. Usually it takes everal hours for this to happen but I suppose if the valve is stuck open it could drain pretty quick.
Like I said don't know your model, but the one or two(car, van) I have a little experience with has the valve in the tank. A guess is that there may be two valves, one in the return line and one on the supply. Again a guess, I think the return would be near the engien and the supply would be in the tank. A shop manual would probably be a big help to find where they are.
My wife's van had the valve in the tank get a little leaky and it would depressurize in several hours.
What makes you think it has no gas in the line? It sounds like it could be the IAC valve sticking. It is a PITA to get to but taking it off and cleaning it cost nothing if you have some carb cleaner handy.
Try changing your fuel filter...
when i bought my truck it typically took about 3 to 4 seconds of cranking
to start. A friend heard me start it and told me it should fire off immediately
and i should change the filter.
I did and the truck starts before the engine makes a complete revolution!
