2007 Chrome Clad Rims...Outraged!!

I agree with berry1234 on this. I have had used Ford cars and trucks in the past.
But I was younger and had a place to work on them so I did not mind. Not only that they were fun to work on too. Now that I am retired living in a rented condo with a condo type parking garage, I don't have a place to do any work, Plus being retired I just don't feel like working on them any more. So the whole idea for me anyway of owning a new SUV that is to have fewer problems and when you do you can have the dealer fix it on warranty.
In other words, I am getting lazy in my old age and don't want to be pulling a transmission or engine out any more, so I got a new SUV.

I didn't want to be buying extra expensive, short milage life and hard riding tires that seem to be so popular now. I have the 4x4 with the 18" wheels so I can use it off road with less worry about damaging a tire or wheel. I really have to laugh at the H2's with 22's or a lifted diesel 4x4 trucks with low profiles. To each there own, but I've diciplined myself to be a bit pratical and avoid the glitz where I can so my wife doesn't have to work outside the home.
Speaking of tires and manufactures, Toyota had a lot of unhappy newer Sienna AWD owners that got sticker shock when it came time to replace the runflat tires. Perhaps things have changed, but for a while the tires were special and only available from the dealer and were quite pricey and lasted <20K miles. Toyota had also printed in the brochure that a spare tire was available as a dealer option, but it was never offered. Toyota had no room for a spare because of the AWD configuration and had to go to run-flats. Toyota now has a legal disclaimer for short tire life on their Tacoma X-Cab truck
" 18-in. tires are expected to experience greater tire wear than conventional tires. Tire life may be substantially less than 24,000 miles, depending on driving conditions."
Toyota has similar warning regarding performance tires on their Camry SE, and Corolla S.
Ford could realy use a leagal disclaimer regarding the Chrome Clad wheels.

Curb Rash
As we have argued ad nauseum about the fact these are covers, it leads me to a question. Can you buy and replace just the chrome cover? I whacked by front wheel on a curb and bent the edge of the cladding away from the wheel. By the way, it bent and didn't crack so I'm pretty sure they covers are metal. Anyhow, do I have to replace the whole wheel or can I get a cover only and have the dealer put it on? the lip of the wheel itself looks fine.
If I have the 20 inch wheel package, what wheel is on the spare? Is it is the same chrome clad wheel on the other 4 or is it just a steel rim? I'm only asking as I don't feel like getting up under the Expy in the cold. If it is the same wheel, I'll just swap it in the spring.
Thanks for any info.

It's a steel 17" wheel under the back....not a matching wheel. And it does not have the TPMS in it so it will cause a light on the dash to come on too. I have the 18" wheels with the covers and I was told they can replace just the cover at the dealer....I hope I was told the truth! But I guess you will find out for us...

news from Dealer
According to the parts guy at the dealer, the 20 inch wheels can only be orderd as a whole item and the chrome cover cannot be ordered separately.
The cost is $299 for the wheel, but they said they could take off 15% for a AAA discount.
Now for the questions:
Anyone else feel like calling their dealer and confirming? I'm not always 100% convinced with the answers I get from my dealer.
Does anyone have a reputable source to get parts like the OEM Ford wheels that is cheaper than the dealer?

I am with cjgeorge32 - I thought I knew a lot about this rig when I bought it, but I just figured out the wheels on my $50k Expedition are PLASTIC covered. Geez, it's bad enough that you can't get HID headlights and LED taillights on this beast, but plastic wheel covers? Ford should be really embarrassed. It explains why their stock price is a fraction of Toyota's!
