Need a general price cost

Have a need for a truck to pull my boat. weekly 20 miles to lake once a month 63 miles to camper. Love the look of the 69, 68, 67 models of F100 What would it cost to put modern engin and disk brakes rest work could be in progress on a budget I need to watch, no hurry starting to look for a truck now If it costs too much will need to find good used truck. By the way when registering for this site didn't look at what I was typing Robbie is my name not ribbie sorry

Thumbs up

1st of all welcome to the FTE Website & this 1961 to 1966 F Series Forum Robbie.

There are way too many variables to really guestimate the answer to your question. Besides that this forum is about 61-66 F Series trucks, AKA the Slick 60's style pick up.

Never the less, there are some basics that apply like: Who'll do the work? Do you want new or used parts? What size/type power train are you considering using? and so forth.

I have retrofitted many an upgrade in FoMoCo pickups between model years 1961 thru 1973. Costs & requirements are pretty much the same. It ranges from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars, again depending on what the owner wants to use for the upgrades. Perhaps if you could be more specific we could be more helpful.

Though you're in the wrong forum for the years you posted, the same comments apply.

Disc brake swap is easy. Click here to read a how-to with photos.

"Modern" engine? Nothing wrong with the engines offered 1965 and later. The 352 is an 'FE', same as 390 and the 360 used in later trucks, just different guts. The sixes are also very good engines and worn ones can be replaced by the excellent 300 six. With electronic igntion such as Petronix or Duraspark and maybe a 'new' carb/intake system there's not need to swap out the engine.

If you truly want a 'modern' truck, then you really should just buy something newer with fuel injection, etc as it's not cost effective to upgrade an older truck unless you truly want it as a long term hobby.

Thanks, Guys The fact is I know nothing about motors and Trans, so thats why I came here first to see if it is cost effective to upgrade a 68, 67 f100 I had a 300 in a 76 f150 when I sold it had 218 thousand and is still running I heard. I would need for the truck to pull a boat and the ramps are really sloped in the winter water pull down. I thought if I put on disk brakes and a modern engin like a 5.0 might be the way I should go but it does not need to be high performance engin just dependable. Will be a work in progress but will need to put into service right away. Have someone who can put the moter in for me would consider 300 or an engin that I can get parts for. Trans need to be something that wont give me problems pulling a 3400 lbs. boat the trailer has trailer brakes but feel I need disks at least on front. What are my chances of finding one cheep and spend $6000 -$7000 to get in good running order and work on the body and interior a little at a time would be fine live in south must have ac too!
