I brought wifey's old car out of retirement (parked for last 1-1/2 yrs.) to drive while her new one was in for repairs. The battery needed charging; but wouldn't take a charge. I boosted the car to get it started, no problem, but noticed the headlights were flickering. Every few seconds they would flash like flashbulbs. I figured the old battery must be shorting out, so shut everything down.
Next day we install a new battery. Fires up fine, headlights are normal and life seems great again. I walked by it later when it was a little darker and noticed the oil light on the dashboard is lit up and the gear shift indicator light are both on. They both go off when you start the car; but re-light when the car is turned off and the keys removed.
I used to have a 97 Chrysler Concorde - same car. Never had that problem so unfourtunately I can't help ya there - really a remotely trouble free car until about 270,000 miles the water pump siezed and sheared the timing belt - overheated and warped the heads so the engine was toast. Car was in AMAZING shape interior/exterior wise with power everything and remote start. I was pretty sad it went to the junk yard since with those miles it didn't make sense to spend 3-5k on a new engine but everything else was fine with that car. Was very comfortable with plenty of power. Wife thought it was too big though and Bought a new Honda to replace it.
Intrepid has been nothing but trouble since day one. Now it has 101,000 miles and its ready for junkyard.
thats weird, my old lady's 97 intrepid has 199,000 miles on it, she jumped that thing off of a 15 foot deep ditch into a fence, the front end had to be rebuilt. And the thing still runs like a champ.
as for the lights, i'm not sure, it seems like our's goes through batteries way faster than it should. even though everything has been checked. but she's never said anything about lights being on after we get a new battery.
