Question Do I have the wrong radiator

The new rad that i put in my 88 f150 st6 was twice as thick as the old one. Mine is a stick and this one came with the connections for an automatic. I just put plugs in the holes and went on. everthing mounts ok but is this goint to hurt anything?

No it won't the only thing you need to worry about is the truck running to cold.

Put a 195 degree thermostat in it so it runs at a good operating temp. The radiator is fine with those holes plugged.

Good Luck

There is two sizes of radiators for these trucks--the standard radiator and the Super Cooling radiator--the SC radiator is over 2 inches thick at the core.
The only problem with installing the SC radiator in a standard radiator truck usually is that the plastic shroud is different.

The affect will be minimal as far as main temp change. You can trim you shroud or there are many different ones to be had. Good luck on search

Just wanted to let you know that When I went to change the tstat I found the 180 degree that was in it wide open. I put the new 192 in and it ran wonderful just about the n on the normal guage. the 180 degree tstat has only been in for 2 or 3 days. I tried to take it back but they more or less accused me of swaping the new one for an old one. won't tell who but i won't go back.

i went from 195 to 180 to ccol better when i changed the rad. and the shroud will be fine, it sist closer but wont touch. curious, did you have to drill the bracket on th e new rad? i did and ended up fabbing it like the drag cars we do.

been there. done that. recently.
the radiator you had is standard cooling, the one you got is HD cooling.

I'm suprised you got the fan shroud to bolt up - mine did not.

but it was broke, so I heaved it anyway.

and yes, I do plan on changing the thermostat before the weather turns cool so I can have some semblence of heat on the short ride to woork in the morning...

I was not able to bolt the shroud so I used two zip ties at the top and a wire on the botom. the rad is taller than the shroud. I thought it to be temporary but it tightend really good so I am going to leave it for now.
