rear traction bar mount location

heres some tech for yall.....

i'll be building my rear traction bars sooner than later and im wondering what is the best position on the rear axle to mount my tabs...

1. On the top
2. On the bottom
3. straight in line with bar?

ive heard the bottom is the best, but you loose ground clearance....im not to worried about the ground clearance b/c of the bigass tires ill be running....

I dont have any pics of them, but around here the tractor tire trucks usually use what looks like a three link. One from the top and one from the bottom on each side. For serious muddin, flex isnt much of a concern, unless its also a street legal truck. BTW, wtf are the lift laws in Florida?

Sorry for the confusion, it only looks like a 3 link. It has one link from the top of the axle to a crossmember, then one link on each side from the bottom of the axle to the frame. The setup is used with leaf springs. They work great but do limit flex.

oh ok....so just the reg. two traction bars....then 1 to the top of the chunk.....right?

wouldn't the top link get in the way of the driveshaft?

where on the axle would the two other links go....on the bottom, top, or center of axle???????

a single traction bar with a shackle on the frame end is all that is needed.

Quad,
Im going to be building a set of traction bars like you mentioned for my D60. Just 1 bar on each side not a triangulated ladder bar like Chrono "aka paint-master" suggested (jusk kidding chrono...that was a good job!) My question is would you mount the bar inboard or outboard of the spring? I have about 2" of useable space between the brake drum and leaf spring and 1 1/2" of useable space between the leaf spring and shock mount. Its going to be tight to put a heim or bushing end between either of those places. Anything wrong with mounting the bars about half way between the center section and shock mount? Then my plan was to build a crossmember to atatch the bars to up front and maybe incorporate a drive shaft loop. What do you think?

i will be putting mine on the inside of the spring....

what i did on my dads ford to fix the problem you were having was just use the torch burn the shock brackets off and reweld them on the top or close to it and weld it back on and run a shorter shock then just have the traction bar mount where the shock mount was....worked great...

this is a crazy thought but has anyone thought of putting a shock or hydro cylinder or somting inline with the traction bar so that it would eliminate the axle wrap but yet still alow flex?

Im going to weld some brackets to the axle between the center section and that round thing on the tube. I thought about using the shock mount as a mounting point but then Id have to buy new shocks.

I think trailmaster did that a few years back. It was one of those deals that bolt to the top of the spring plate and run backwards toward the rear of the truck. CRAP IMHO!

I started working on my bars this afternoon. Ill let you know how it goes.
