79 block
- '83-4 ford changed the block slightly as far as the oil dipstick location. Previously there was only one dipstick location on the block, for the mid-sump pan. I'm not sure, but I think most '80 & later trucks used the rear sump pan whether they were 4x4 or not. For the '79 engine, if it doesn't all ready, you'll need the rear sump pan with the dipstick through the pan. You'll also need the oil pump pick-up tube, support & the main bearing cap bolt.
- Your '83 SHOULD have the duraspark II (DSII) ignition, same as the '79. If not, you might need to convert one way or the other (I'd recomend going to the DSII, a better ignition than the later TFI).
These were the main things that I found. Keep in mind that my '84 is a 4x4 & I was also changing the intake/exhaust, carb & other goodies. Hope this helps.
