Hello people... just purchased a 2001 4x4 F-250 7.3L... found this place through some google searching, and looks like there is much to learn.
I am completely new to diesels, hell... to trucks. I have been toggling to the acronym definition page to try to figure out what in the world you guys are talking about most of the time.
Congrats on the truck and welcome. There is a lot to learn here. Plenty of catchup reading, and even difficult to just keep up with daily posts. Enjoy.
I was reading through guzzle's 2002 Ford Powerstroke Diesel maintenance site, and read the directions on replacing the fuel filter in the engine.... there is also another one in the rear of the truck right? I assume it's something similar to a gas car? in line type fuel filter?
Anyone have instructions/guide/pictures? the truck has some high miles (169,000) and I am performing some maintenance on me so it continues to run strong. Ahh... and the engine is pretty dirty.. any tips on what not do do when spraying it off/degreasing it?
Welcome Cyclical, Also look here www.7point3.com click on the common mods/ maintenence link and it will take you to an archive of posts from here with all kinds of good things
Welcome to FTE and congrats on the truck. Don't be afraid to ask us about anything you see that you don't know what it means. Heck, I don't know of anybody (well maybe Strokin_it7.3) knew everything right from the start. I will be the first to admit that there is still a bunch I don't.
Man, get ready to have fun. Ask questions before you do anything with your truck, like mods ect. These guys can save you lots of pain. Believe you me they know what they are talking about. You are off to a good start by changing all the fluids and filters. Keep a good log of all maintance and mods you do.
Have fun and keep reading and asking questions. Good luck young man.
I was going to ask what filter, but through searches have seen much debate between the general population and Gene.. lol..
I went and picked up a cheap *** fram filter to get by for a few weeks. The one that was in there was tore up, bent, and looked like it was trying to suck itself into the intake. It was filthy....
I plan on getting a spray in bedliner from LineX, new shocks, new rear brakes, fuel filter, and tint the front drivers/passenger side glass.

Ouch, have you looked at your turbo impellar blades to make sure it is not damaged from that pitterful filter? Sounds like it may have run for a while with that filter. Hopefully your CCV (crankcase ventilalation) is still stock and the oily residue captured the bulk of any dust in the CAC (charge air cooler) most likely in the intercooler (IC). There, a few defined for you.
As bdrummonds pointed out, 7point3 has good info easy to find on the homepage for some reading to get you up to speed on your truck. A lot links right back to here, but it is much easier to find than searching on here.

I'll be looking tomorrow morning, going to be pretty busy tonight. Will also change out the F/F with a Racon? (I think thats the brand) if I can find one locally for a decent price. No CCV mod has been done to it, but I may do that this weekend if I get a chance. Need to search on here for the guide..
Is the screen in the pump and the fuel pick up assembly something that I should clean out? or is it something that should be alright?
Welcome aboard. As was stated, there are a lot of really knowledgeable and helpful people here. The mod bug will hit in a week or two and then the fun will really begin.
