it would be best to start a new thread when asking questions about your E40D trans.

I have a 1995 f150 4x4 the overdrive light keeps flashing and it shifts back and forth from higher to lower gears will go in overdrive at about 65 mph but if I slow to 55mph or so it will shift back to a lower gear from start it will change from 1St to 2nd when the rpms get up to about 4000 unless I shift it manually the mechanic said it may be the speed sensor if so where is it located or could it be something else thanks for the help

1992 F-350, 7.3 diesel with the E40D tranny.

I installed a new torque converter, before it was replaced everything worked, now I don't have 1st gear or overdrive. Any ideas on what could be the problem now? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Code readers are too unreliable for these trucks...

There should be a connector on the inside of the driver side fender right up against the firewall. It should have a cap labeled "EEC Test" I think. Warm the truck up, then shut it off. Then there are a couple of certain slots to jumper between. I can't access Supermotors right this second to post the diagram for it, so it might be a little before I can show you exactly how to do it.

Got a 96 powerstroke w/ e4od transmission 319,000 miles. Had the tranny rebuilt twice along the way. On my way home today the overdrive ligbt (the off light on the shifter) started blinking. Can anyone tell me what this means?

oh man.not this thread again lol.you guys need to understand a flashing od light means a massive variety of troubles and it's not a universal thread.no one can search and find what they're after in this thread latter on because its just a hijacked mess lol.
it's always best to start a new thread about your flashing od lights/trans shifting issues,as it's almost certain to be a completely unrelated issue than an op in one of these old ones.

Ed,
to help you get going in the right direction, the light means there is a code stored (or more) with this code (that you get with a code reader.for your truck,it would be an obd2 scanner) it points you in the right direction as to what issue the trans is experiencing.
once you scan for the code(s) with your scanner or have it scanned for free at autozone.start a new thread with these new found codes along with a brief description of the trans issue(s) and someone will be more than happy to help explain what they mean and diagnose the issue(s) with ya.

welcome to the forum Ed! don't feel scolded brother.it's just this one should be locked down lol.

Hello Chad,
I noticed that you have a ZF manual in your 1995 F150. I have often thought about converting my auto E4OD to manual with the ZF-S542 in my 1992 Ford F150. Any thoughts on that?

Ed B.
