Boost Gauge

I am wondering where you hook up a boost gauge to a 2000 ford Powerstroke.

Here's mine. It's the clear 1/8" Tygon line.

OK... here's the question... which is better - cold side or hot side?

What are the pros and cons of each?

well I say cold is better because its giving you a reading right before it goes in to the motor so its more accurate to what the motor is seeing, if done on the hot side it could read a little higher but becaue of pressure drop across the intercooler its not actually what the motor is getting.... but all that is just my oppinion

At the same time, though, on the hot side, you're actually seeing what level of boost is being generated by the turbo itself.

I'll show my ignorance on this issue one more time and ask... where is the MAP sensor getting its boost measurement from - hot or cold side?

I think it gets it from the cold side in the side of the 5 way pipe

Here's a thought. Why not use a little 12v solenoid valve, make connections to both sides, and have a little flip switch in the cabunder the gauge with one position labeled HOT and the other COLD, then you can switch between the two sides and run/monitor either one you want. Could even be a decent troubleshooting tool to see if there is a boost leak between the two sides around the intercooler boots.

EDIT: I've just atlked myself into it. I know I can get a small 1/8th inch Parker 12v solenoid for about $60-$70, which is about the same as a second gauge, but will only have to have the one gauge instead of two in the cab.

I went the the AIH delete plug from Pure Diesel Power. Got rid of the AIH and gave a good place to hook up the boost gauge. HERE is the plug. and here's what it looks like. almost to easy.

F250 - LOVE THE IDEA! Could you cheap it up and have a manual valve under the hood?

I want to try that too.

Pete, do you have a link to a site that sells the valve that we would need?

Got to Http://www.dieselmanor.com
Click on install sheets.
They have real good color photos of hooking into the MAPP sensor line. Requires a tee fitting with the pressure line adaptor, couple of hose clamps, nut driver and a jackknife.

Ernest please don't hijack this thread, however Jody Tipton mentioned a small benefit in response by moving the MAP line to the hot side. I used the exisiting MAP elbow-nipple for my boost-reference on the fuel pressure regulator, and i drilled and tapped two holes in the hot side compressor manifold. My gauge JUMPS from 5 to 25psi as fast as it takes to move from idle to 5psi. Maybe thats a combination of my fueling, tuning and turbo but i never saw that happen before. Jury is out (you too ernest ) on if it increases performance but it just puts my mind at ease.
