I picked up an explorder 4.0 5spd 93 4x4 sport (2 door). It's a fun lil thing to beat the crap out of. But like all my other trucks I wana lift it. It has the TTB in the front which I can rebuild or I'd like to see what a SAS would entail. But as far as lifting it, any recommen dations on size and companies? I'm thinking a 4" with 33s and then regear to 4.55 for the lil fella
I disagree, if you like it you should be able to do what you want, my dad has a 92 4 door explorer, and it works great in the snow, its actually pretty hard to get stuck and not be able to drive out. Except the time when buried it in snow over the top of the hood, needed a little help after that.
It has a Dana 35 in the front and an 8.8 in the rear. Pretty stout for the size if rig but you can break them being silly on the gas. The D35 uses D44 u-joints, just for reference. A solid axle can be a bit of a challenge but it isn't too bad if you think it out before you start cutting. Stay away from superlift, their drop plate has a reputation for punching hole in the front diff. 4in of lift, 33's and 4.56s would would well especially if you locked it.
A friend of mine had a 92 explorer with a 4" lift and 31's. He also had the 4.0. and the stock gearing, not sure what that is. It went really well through the snow. I was suprised how hard it was to get it stuck. By all means go for the 33's and 4.56's. The truck should do quite well with them. There is nothign wrong with the TTb. My bronco has the dana 44 version and I beat the pants out of it and haven't had any complaints at all.
