I am having trouble with some rusted old intake bolts.I have bought some Irwin blade sockets, they didn't work.I have beat on them with a BFH and chisel, but with little success. Not to mention I'm almost passing out with the effort.Iknow someone out there has had the same problem.Plz all help welcomed.
Once you mess the heads up your in for trouble. The reason I use 6 pt sockets when ever I can. Normally a 6point impact socked on a IR impact wrench works with minimal effort.
I would start soaking with penetrating/rust break oil. Keep working on them.
Are all of them unbreakable are just a few messed up?
Grinding the head off would be the last option. The use a stud remover to finish the job.
Never personally heard of the issue.. taken a few of these apart and not once had this issue with a "intake manifold". Usually enough oil all over everything on the FE to prevent such issues LOL You are trying to loosen(lefty) them right? dont know if you dont ask....
I'd try penetrating oil and maybe a hammer/drift to give it a shock and then try it.. BOL
the problem is the heads of the bolts are so rusted it has deformed them, and believe it or not its two of them.one on each side next to last towards the firewall.
use as big a nut as you can, since that will give you more area to weld. also, you can get sockets now that work really well on stripped heads. they even have them for impact use. a little heat on the bolt head and one of these sockets will most likely remove it. I have taken off nuts from 35 year old leaf spring packs with these sockets and a little heat. I use craftsman brand of these sockets.
