Hi guys
Has anyone added a auxiliary transmission in their trucks, if so what are the pro and cons. Looking into towing RV's from the factory's to the dealers. Has anyone made a decent living doing this?
Thanks
That was me talking about it and I came to the conclusion that there is nothing out on the market that I really want.
What I want is a VERY close ratio aux tranny that will change engine rpm 200 rpm or less and needs to be minimum 2 speed. 3 or 4 would be more preferable, but there is simply nothing on the market for a pickup truck like that.
HUMPH!!!
So when the money is there I'll probably end up getting a US Gear OD unit and bolt it in.
Dan, doesn't Ford have a rear diff offered from the factory thats a 2 speed? I know a guy I used to work with put a 2 speed rear in a brand new 05 F350 dually, for towing a 23K emissions testing trailer. (thinking its offered in the 450 550 650) So that would be a direct swap for you.

I looked at that option on Dana's website and all I could find was a single speed for the 135 axle. Two speeds; I had to get a bigger axle.
I may very well be mistaken on the single speed only.
Since you've seen it in the flesh, so to speak, I'll check around again.
Dan, if I remember correctly with the gear that was in it, he was getting like 13mpg towing and 21 empty. Of course mileage results may vary with driver.
It wouldn't be a splitter like a Gear Vendors unit, but the stock gear ratios would be fine for straight towing and, straight empty, due to having to stop to shift.

Do you have any way of contacting that individual?
Any leads would be great.
So are those mileage numbers!
