1998 Explorer ControlTrac Problem
I have a 1998 Explorer, 4.0 OHC with ControlTrac 4WD system. 4WD H and 4WD L modes work fine but in 2WD H the front axle no longer engages automatically when the rear wheels lose traction. The antilock brakes are apparently OK, since I get no warning light.
Any ideas on possible failure points and how to diagnose them? Ski season is coming and I prefer the auto 4WD mode in most moderate conditions!

Do you have any loose wiring connections? Check there first and see if that will fix your problem. Could be corrosion.
