I ordered the HF "shrinker/stretcher" (item 95062) for 199.99, with tax and shipping it comes to about 230 bucks, thing was the Modesto store didn't have stock of it, and in order to get a raincheck, I'd have to go in, then go back when thier shipment arrived, so I figured for 12 bucks shipping, what the heck, and save a few trips into Modesto.
It has the same specs as the Eastwood one, almost as if HF copied Eastwoods ad, only difference I could see was that Eastwood was going to run me around 400.00.
I need to make a few curves on some sheetmetal I had for the '31, figured what the heck and thought I'd just try it myself. Also going to see if I can make the rockers for my '36 as well with it.
Also have a few 4x10 sheets of 18ga coming today and some flatbar..going to have to set up the brake and do some practice runs before the real deal.
Kewl - At least you got the price down a bit. It will be interesting to see how it works for ya. Now you can make all sorts of custom panels for your truck, right?
If nothing else it's an education and you have to pay for an education. At least that is what my buddy Rick always says.
Let me know if you need help or company tomorrow or the next day .... I have some time. Edit: or maybe Monday or Thursday next week.
Heck, should have had you hang around AJ, I marked out and cut the boxing plates this afternoon...just got done grinding one and will try fittng it later tonight.
Will still be awhile before I weld them in, I'll let you know ahead of time and maybe you and Rick can scoot on down here and get an idea of what I'm doing.
Wow, FEDX dropped them off a few minutes ago, that's faster than I could have gotten with the raincheck in the store. Have to make some holders for them to clamp into the vise, no use hard mounting them, since they won't get used too often.
Just in time too...the fan quit in the plasma cutter this morning, spent most of the morning looking for one without luck, guess I'll jump back on the Dodge, then clean the torch tip and have to cut the other boxing plate out the old fashioned way...man I suck with a torch, you saw my cuts on that 3/16th, pretty ratty huh?
You're way too kind, I have to clean them tips to get some good heat and prevent the "bubbling", so the Oxygen will just blow it out...that's why I like the plasma so much, just squeeeze the trigger and you have a good and clean cut...but alas I have to find a fan motor or smoke the unit...don't wanna do that
