I decided to do the 6637 mod on my early 99 7.3 PSD. I bought the filter and went to install it. Seems on this truck I can not get the end of the intake hose over the filter opening. What have you guys done to over come this?
I did find where there was an issue with this mod.

I used a 3" pvc dwv coupling to connect my hose to the filter. There is a little bump on the coupling thats needs to be shaved off to make it smooth. Mine is an 01', Don't know if yours is different. The coupling slips into the filter and hose. Good luck
I sell plumbing in my store so I walked around with that big monster filter in my hands looking for something that would fit. Very cheap part, and works great.
I finished the mod for now. I see that I am not allowed to post attachments (photos)
Anyone know why? My question is that the hose from the filter to the bracket that used to secure the filter housing doesn't seem to be long enough. My filter rests on the side of the master cylinder and edge of the battery. I would like it to fit a bit lower. Between the battery and the master cylinder. The hood closes ok but there is very little room from the top of the filter to the hood. If someone wants to see the pictures send me your e-mail and I'll forward them for your crtique and helpful answers.

Mine was tight when I went to close my hood the first time. I got out my cutoff tool and went to work on the base of the old airbox. It fits nicely now. It doesn't look so hot when the filter isn't in but who cares about that? When will the filter not be in?
One other thing that you really need to do to help ensure that the filter does NOT come loose (like mine did - within a week)... before you insert the filter neck into the hose, rough it up a bit with very coarse sandpaper so that the hose will "bite" into the surface tightly, and then make sure that the OEM clamp is tightened down very, VERY firmly. Then you should have no problem.
As an aside, I, too, have used the 4-inch diameter exhaust pipe transition, and found that it too can come loose. Keep your eyes on the filter connection. It doesn't take being loose by much to suck in a whole lot of dirt into the turbo.
