I was racing against a friend today, and I runnin about 83 or so, and then my speedo took off and looked like I was runnin 130 or so (guestimating), I let off the gas, and the speedo spun backwards a couple of times then landed back on the right speed, which was now. Ever since then, it wiggles 5mph now. Whats up?
thats a binding speedo cable, mines been doin it for over 6 months now.
when i start moving, it jumps around randomly and then settles down once i speed up and hit 3 gear. its not that big of a deal to me, so i havnt bothered to figure out how to fix it, probbally pretty easy though
Mine also does this up to about 15MPH .... at least it works right by the time I get to the speed limit for the school zones. I would agree it is a binding cable. But if you ever looked at the speedo .... you would know why it binds, it has a magnetic clutch that spins from the cable and keeps the weighted (maybe spring loaded) needle moving forward as the magnetic field drags more against the load. When the cable binds it stops and then snaps forward ... causing the needle to float around +/- 5 MPH.
Greasing the cable may help, making sure you have enough oil in your tranny if a standard may help also as some of that oil lubes the cable.
