Idle problem, Tranny kicks like a mule!
Recently the check engine light came on while I was sitting at a light. When I accelerated it went off. Today it came on again and I noticed the the idle was higher than normal after I parked at work. After a few hours of sitting I went out to dinner and everything appeared normal. When I left dinner the check engine light came on but this time the tranny sounded like it was about to fall out the bottom when it shifted. At the time I was only going 15-20 mph when it shifted from first to second. I stopped, shut it off, and then restarted it. Before the A/C was on and when I restarted it I turned off the A/C. This time the check engine light stayed off and the tranny shifted normally on my way back. I do notice a slight hiss coming from the A/C controls when it is turned to the off position and I lose the air during acceleration when it's set to MAX A/C.
Ok so it appears that I have a vacum leak somewhere in the A/C system. But would this be enough to cause the high idle and the harsh shifting? I plan to pull the codes this weekend. I just thought until then somebody might know where I should begin to look.
Thanks,
John
I did three things before this started happening:
1. Replaced the fuel filter
2. Added seafoam to the fuel
3. Cleaned and re-oiled my K&N filter
A guy at work thought that maybe some residual oil from the K&N filter contaminated the MAF sensor causing the high idle. I just got home from work this evening and the check engine light did not come on until I got home.
Thanks,
John
