I have a 92 302 bone stock and am thinking of investing in a 347 stroker kit. My question is: Do I absolutely need a more aggressive cam? Will the power gained from the added displacement and stock cam warrant the purchase? Just an aside I am looking to gain low end torque and horsepower in a medium rpm range, not 7 grand!

Reason: Left out info
You need to fill that displacement up so a bit longer duration on intake and exhaust nothing to wild should work! Use lot's of assembly lube and grease that cam up when you do it. Are you doing anything to the heads?

If you are going to invest that much in a new rotating assembly, wouldn't you like to benefit the extra cubes gained?

Oh yes. And so would some work on those E7 heads. You won't regret it.

Upgrade your camshaft, there are some extreme stroker cams available for the more serious build. But I think you'd benefit from the 35-308-8 for your mild build. Firing order would change, but you'd have an excellent torque improvement over stock with the low duration and taller valve lift. I've run that cam in well built 331's and the 306 in my truck with great success. Call up comp if you're worried and see what they suggest. Make sure you let them know your build will be mild or they will push you to one of those extreme camshafts. You'd be leaving alot of low end grunt on the table running a stock cam and stock heads.
That rotating assembly for any 347 is not cheap... a real cam and some head work would greatly benefit your build.
I'm sure others will chime in with other opinions.
