I am getting ready to purchase a truck cover to mainly keep the dust off my truck while it is sitting in the garage. Can anybody recommend a good one for this purpose? Any I should stay away from?
California Car Cover does make one for the 53-56. I have one I think it is a step below the best one they sell. It worked well in my garage when I was using it. But now my beater is not even in same planet as B/B's. That is one slick truck. When I get big, (my wife says bigger) I am going to see if Trux1956 can copy his door panels for my 55'. Good luck in your pursuit of a cover.
I have 3 of the Cal custom car covers including one for Gracie, they all fit very well and they will customize it to order (the one they made for the Celica was sans rear wing, a rare configuration). They have ~ 6 different fabrics to choose from depending on what you are trying to protect from.
Thanks guys, I just requested a print catalog from California Car Cover. It just gets sort of confusing with all the different materials available.I,m leaning towards the "Dustop" which is for indoor only, and the "Noah" which is for indoor/outdoor.
I am wondering if they both go on and off easily, or is the indoor/outdoor "Noah" a lot bulkier and harder to manage?
I am going to use it mainly indoor but it wood be nice to have one that could on occasion be used on a overnight trip.
All of mine are in Noah. It is a lightweight soft quilted looking material and quite durable for outdoor use. It is weather resistant and breathes so moisture does not build up underneath, mine have been thru heavy rains/winds, snow and ice storms (ice sticks to the fabric so it must melt off). It rolls up into a bag about 30" long and 12-14" in diameter weighing about like an average blanket. The one for Gracie is a little difficult for one person to manage simply because of size and height of the panel, but it can be done. It has grommets centered on each side of the lower hem an optional locking cable can be passed through under the vehicle. It has elastic in the hem front and rear to keep it in place. It is washable in a heavy duty oversized washing machine at a laundramat. It is quite suited to indoor use as well. I'd recommend it for dual use and the only one for outdoor storage.
Donna and I each have put the one on Gracie ourselves a number of times. It's no the cover itself that makes it a little awkwards for one, it's just the sheer size of the panel truck that makes it easier to do with a person on each side. The cover is not stiff or heavy, just BIG! You have to keep running from side to side to keep it from sliding off, until the main body is covered the elastic wants to pull it off. Imagine trying to put a fitted cover over a greased elephant by yourself...
Mine is dustop, and made from recycled paper towels, I think. It fits my 55 to a "T", but is NOT durable. Spend the extra money Wayne.
Jim are you sure yours is a Dustop from Ca. Car Cover? if so thanks for letting me know its flimsy. It is not "cheap" at $240. But it claims to stop almost all dust. It is guaranteed 3 years from CCC and 4 years from Covercraft.
Wayne, mine is from carcroversdirect.com. did not mean to imply that it was from ca. car cover. It was 130$. If I were you, with that fine machine, I would spend the 330$ and get the real quality one, the one I'm thinking of is "thick" and somewhat padded, in the event something fell over onto your baby.
