August Sales Numbers
Ford August U.S. sales down 14 percent
DETROIT (Reuters) - Ford Motor Co said on Tuesday that U.S. sales fell 14 percent in August, hit by a decline in showroom sales.
The company said retail, or showroom, sales fell 13 percent, while sales to car rental companies were down 44 percent.
Ford also said it plans to produce 640,000 vehicles during the fourth quarter, up 6 percent from the same period a year ago.
Then WHY are they increasing production? Possibly "guarding" vs a UAW strike?

Toyota Motor Corp., with 233,471 vehicles sold in August, beat Ford’s 217,436 for the month. The Japanese automaker sold 1.788 million vehicles during the first eight months of the year, edging Ford, which sold 1.784 million. Many analysts have predicted that Toyota will overtake Ford for the No. 2 slot for the full year in 2007.
