Power Window Problem

I have seen a bunch of threads on power locks, but I can't find anything on power windows, so here goes...
I push the driver's side window button down and it sails smoothly down, to 1/2 way and stops dead. Hold the button and it goes down a little more and stops.
A few more tries and it goes all the way down. Window goes up fine, but a bit slower than the passenger side.
It's a 2001 F-350 and it HAD the one touch window down feature.

Yeah...my passenger side window does about the same thing. I guess by the sound of things it will stop going down all the way eventually. Sorry no help, but I would assume it is a window track thing bc it looks like the window starts grabbing on one side then the other and sort of shudders down. I figured I would look into it when it finally calls it quits for good.

Try lubing the track, one of the best things to use is silicone valve lubricant (plumber's silicone). That could fix your problem, if the motor keeps over working it will burn out. You can try spray silicone for a quicker fix, it will not last as long but it will tell if it just needs lubrication. You got nothing to lose and only money and time to save.

Good Luck
Dave

I agree with trying to lubricate it. Over time the tracks start to dry out and bind the window in certain points. Just a little resistance will cause the window to stop, plus over time relays tend to become a little weak which doesnt help.

After disassembling the whole door I can tell youit's NOT the motor , switch or regulator. The window itself does not want to slide smootly in the track and I think you guys are spot on in suggesting lubing the track.
Problem WAS coming up with a lube that would not migrate all over the winow
I have owned and worked on Fords for about 30 years and have never heard of lubing the window track before.
I have been involved in Home Improvement for about the same amount of time and
I have never heard of Plumber's Silicone either.
Learn something new everday......especially here at FTE
BTW Do you get Plumber's silcone at a Plumbing Supply store??
Thanks

I just went to the garage and pulled plumber silicone, mine is Dow Corning 111 Valve Lubricant & Sealant, on the box it says contains silicone, provides moisture barrier, non-curing sealant, -40 f to 400 f, applicationslug valves;water softner valves,;faucet valves;vacuum&pressure systems;rubber&plastic o-rings,gaskets&seals. You get the idea. This stuff is slick(slippery). I got turned on to it while working at a Midas shop, we used it for lubing backing plates and rebuilding calipers and wheel cylinders. I have found a hundred other uses for the stuff.

In Reno you should be able to get it at Western Nevada Supply along with several other places.

Hope this helps.

That funny.

My window does the same thing. I was thinking of using axle grease. Let me know how the silicon does.

Reviving an old thread....

Does anyone have any results to post?? I have the same problem, driver's side window. A friend of mine used to work in a Ford garage and told me there's a Ford window track lube out there. Any ideas where to find it??

Is it a spray or a goop. Did you put it on the window or in teh track inself?? Any issues with it migrating to the glass and smearing???

It comes in a bigger version of a silicone gasket make type tube. Viscosity is like a thin axle grease. You put it in the track, run the window up and down, repeat as needed.
Clean the goop off the window and you are done.No migration problem after the initial install.
