my 97 f150 4.2LV6 just did the same thing, I replaced the fan clutch,thermostat and belt,still had the problem the radiator checked temp wasnt the same from the top to bottom,meaning the flow wasnt good.relpaced it today seems to be the fix

bottom line gotta have good air, coolant flow, need to ck both systems,

Finally got the prob fixed. Not exactly sure what the prob was. The water pump started making noise so I changed it. After driving for about 30 min. steam started coming in through the dash and I could taste the antifreeze. shut it down and let it cool off. Apuddle formed on pass. side floor. I guess the heater core cracked, so I bypassed it. since I havent had any probs

The engine turning faster will heat an engine faster, because their are more combutions strokes taking place in the engine. If I remeber correctly that is what make an engine hot. Yes the water pump turns faster, but the thermostat still regulates when it gets cycled to the radiator.

was losing pressure, and boiling over.. while reading this post I was getting ready to reply with did you check the radiator cap?, but I noticed you found the problem. glad you got 'er fixed. (temporarely anyway)
I had a 76 mercury grand marquis that would overhead badly on the highway.. found out that It was just a leaking radiator cap.
