F1 stuck linkage
Friday, the shift linkage on my everyday driver, flathead 8 and 3 speed, seemed to jam between gears as I came to a stop. Nothing would seem to get it to move into any gears so I got out and moved the shift arms at the tranny and she drove home fine. I looked under and nothing seems to have any excessive play. The manual's description of adjusting the linkage is a bit unclear (adjust for a hand clearance to the instrument panel). Any suggestions?

I assume this is a column shifter? Check the ends on your shifter rods, they can wear so oval that it doesn't pull one lever all the way back to center before you go into the next gear. This could cause some real problems!! There are a lot of places on the column shift linkage system (from column arms all the way to tranny levers) where wear can accumulate.
At the worst, there is a ball-and-spring set-up inside the trans cover that provides a detent action. If it has failed, you need to fix it fast!

My linkage has some wear/play in it. Bill (numberdummy) gave me some part numbers to try to compare for the bushings in mine. I need to work on mine as soon as I get paid again.
