finally found me a 79 4x4
i posted in the 87-96??? forum cause i had a 87 4x4, but it was a headache and i sold it to my uncle for parts. and i found a 79 f100 4x4 for $600 im buying. im not sure if its the 351W or the 351M/400. ive been told the 351M is a 400. its been modified. and i want to know how to bump the compression up? any info would be much appreciated

The 351M is a destroked 400. 351M has 4" Bore x 3-1/2" Stroke. 400 is 4" Bore x 4" Stroke. As far as component parts, the only difference between the two is crankshaft and pistons.
Assuming the engine is original, it is a 351M. Of course, a 351W could have been swapped in over the years.
