Well, I have spent the morning giving the '87 (better known as Ol' Red) a good going-over, and have found a few little things that I'm gonna have to put on "The List" of things to fix.
I discovered the reason why the dome light wouldn't work. It won't shut off! Evidently I have a wiring issue to track down somewhere. That can wait.
I also discovered that the windshield washer won't work. The hose is there, connected and all, but it just won't spray. Wipers work fine. Just no "spritz" to the windshield. Full washer tank, too. Damn.
I think I've figured out how I'm going to fix the floorboard hole temporarily until I can afford to do it properly and permanently. A friend from Indiana gave me one of her old license plates. They make theirs completely flat now, and it just looks like the perfect size to cover the hole. A few sheetmetal screws, some caulk, and I think it'll hold ... for now. Bear in mind this is a $400 truck!
Overall, though, still satisfied, just finding out that some of this stuff is going to take some time and attention!
the dome light circuit does ground through the door pin switch . either it is stuck or rusted. either way an easy fix
The windshield sprayer mounts in the bottom of the tank and is also a very easy fix, but first listen to see if it runs, maybe the line is plugged.
I have a '94 150, work on it all the time, and wouldnt drive anything else.
If the washer motor doesn't run, it's a good posibility that the connector to the motor is corroded where it plugs into the motor at the bottom of the resevour.
I'm looking at that as a strong possibility. Given what I've seen so far, it would not surprise me one bit. I've messed around with things a bit today, but it's gotten too hot again, so I'll have to wait until tonight or tomorrow morning to give it another shot.
And, on another note, it managed to be 1/2-gallon low on coolant. Hmmm ... I don't see any obvious leaks, and no signs of it in the oil, so it's probably just been a while -- maybe even a LONG while -- since it had any added. I'll be watching, just in case ...
