FWIW, I had Ranchos on my '01 X, and have Bilsteins now on my '05 X. I'm going back to the Ranchos 'cuz the Bilsteins are too stiff.

I bought Bilsteins at Shoxx.com. Quick delivery, very happy with the shocks over the factory.

Another vote for the Rancho's. I love the adjustability. I'm looking forward to it even more for the winter. When it gets REALLY cold here (ala -40* F) shocks can really stiffen up, or some even go flat like there not even there. I'm looking forward to being able to take them into a warm garage, adjust the dial, and get a ride that works in any weather.

Rancho RS9000x

I've been happy with my Rancho shocks.
True I hardly change the settings and once had a friend change one end to 8 on both shocks.
(Scared me half to death as I never thought the roads were that rough.)
The adjustability helps to balance the ride quality if you inflate your tires up for better economy and capacity.
I bought mine off of Amazon.com vender. I believe I got all 4 for about $160 delivery free & no sales tax.
Good luck , Rich.

Really! By any chance do you remember the url to the seller?

EDITED: Are they the RS9000XL or just the RS9000

OOPS I meant about $260 for all 4. It was like a buy 3 get 1 free. Unfortunately they didn't have the RS9000XL when I bought.
Sorry I reread my posting and $160 would have been great for adjustables. Rich.

As many of you know we are always here willing to help. You can call us for advice and ordering help or just order online. Use the code "fordtrucks" and get 5% off orders of $75 or more.

BTW.... Bilsteins are my favorites!

Speaking of the adjustable Rancho's... I've had 3 sets on different vehicles and just put a set on my '05 Ex. Does anyone else who has 'em feel like they're too weak (even on 9) for the weight of the Ex? Even with all four cranked as tight as they'll go, the truck feels mushy.

Other sets I've had on other vehicles worked great -- you could adjust the ride from Town Car to Lumber Wagon. :-) But on my Ex, anything below about 7 on the front end actually leads to what feels like wheel bounce on rough roads.

Rancho apparently just redesigned the ones for the Ex and I've got the "new" design.

Mine are set for 7 all around right now and I think they're pretty good. It's still a 3/4 ton vehicle so it isn't smooth as butter, but it's not bad. I bought/installed mine 4 months ago.

On my 03 I let them on 1 and aired up the tires....

but since I never changed them, not really looking for adjustables...

but do want a good ride, and something that will not pogo the expensive tires to a cupping death

I've got to agree with jdadamsjr. I air my tires up and keep the shocks on 3 or 4 in front and 3 in rear except when towing. Then its 4 all around.
Any higher I'd have to stop at every rest stop & Truck stop.
I like the smooth ride of these Excursions.
Rich.
