I want to swap out my carb on my '66 F100 352, the VIN say's it came with a 2bbl carb but somewhere along the way someone put a Motorcraft 4bbl carb on it. I just had the motor rebuilt and it was bored 30 over. I was told that this is a square bore intake and someone else said it's a spread bore, which is it ??
I bought a HOLLEY 4160 600cfm carb, (square bore), to install I want to know if I need to buy an adapter plate or will I be able to use the existing adapter plate to install this carb on the original intake ??
Check out the guys on the FE Block forum; I recently purchase a 65 model galaxie 500 352 engine with a 4 barrel; the intake is also a 4 barrel design; the trucks series where only 2 barrel intake / carb set ups. (On day will install it in my 65 truck)...
Hope this helps.
Not sure you can tell without pulling the carb off the intake. A spread bore has larger throttle plates in the rear, while a square bore has four throttle plates essentially the same size. If there is an aluminum spacer block under the carb, you can usually see the bump-out for the spread bore. Most cast iron factory intakes I've seen are square bore.
