Trying to drill it deeper and stick a stud isn't a good idea. Go with the jb weld and a heli coil I have done it many times on differing types of metal (cast iron to magnesium)
The helicoil is actually stronger than the original threads and you will not have any problems with it. If the hole isn't ovaled out from drilling forget about the jb weld and just use the heli coil and follow the directions to a t. For $15.00 You will have a repair that will last a lifetime and no one will ever know unless they really examine it.
You drill out whats left of the threads with their drill bit, run the tap dealy that comes with the kit, then coat the helicoil with red lock tite turn the helicoil in with the tool snap off the tab, let the lock tite dry over night, then reassemble!!(with antisieze) If the hole is ovaled out fill it with jb weld so its smooth with the surface let that cure real good then follow the above directions
Great follow up! Everyone likes to hear what worked so when people search they get their answers!! I am glad it worked for you did you have to JB weld it or not? Heli coils rock especially in aluminum parts with steel fasteners! I wish I could afford to buy a complete kit with metric and sae thread sizes so I don't have to run and buy a single kit when needed!,Of course if I did have it I would never need it!
i had my hole a little off but i just JB welded a little area that had another hole, Everything came together real nicely. To me its a temporary fix untill i can afford my GT 40 intake. LOL! Again thanks and you guys know your stuff im not gonna lie. Thanks again
