I am having troubles with the door idiot light staying on after all the doors shut. It seems to be lazy.....works when it wants to.
With the light on, the power door locks don't work like they are supposed to. The truck is an 03 f250 sc xlt 4x4.
Has anyone else had this trouble? When the light doesn't go off, I reclose the doors again and still nothing. I'm not sure but I believe the trouble is in the drivers side door. I can not find the switch. Any input would be helpfull.
It's likely to be the door ajar switch... if your truck is anything like my Explorer, the switch is actually inside the door, mounted to the latch... to get to it, you'd have to pull the inside door panel. Mine got "sticky" after about 3 years, and I put up with the annoyance for another year before I decided to just fix it. It wasn't a very hard job. You'll have some guys say "spray WD-40 in the latch"... that might loosen it up short term, but it will start sticking again. The switch is cheap, and it's the right way to fix it. The other things to check would be the wiring from the switch to the GEM module, and the GEM module itself. The switch, though, is a common failure point.
I had the same thing happen to another Ford product....My '97 Mark VIII. WD-40'ed it 4 years ago...problem has not returned. It's a whole lot simplier than replacing the switch!!
Sure, try the WD-40... do be aware it may wash any lube out of the latch mechanism that's there, especially if you're liberal with it. My switch was stuck so bad that tinkering with it would do no good (I did mess with it after I replaced it). It only took about 40 minutes and 1 beer to do it on my Exploder err Explorer. The driver's side is the only one that's failed so far (makes sense, as I'm single, and ride alone 99% of the time, so no need to open and close any of the other doors that often).
Edited to add: If you do opt to just replace the switch, take the old one out and take it with you to the dealer; My dealer (for some damn reason, I gave them the RIGHT part number right out of alldatadiy.com) couldn't seem to locate the right switch, they are different on the passenger side... I ended up taking the original to the warehouse and getting it myself. Wasted almost 2 hours due to that mistake.
