I was driving on the free way about 70 or 75 in my 68 F250 and i heard a big thud and the truck started to shake so i pulled over checked it out made sure i didn't blow the engine or the truck wasnt on fire then got home and started to try diagnosing called some family that were previous mechanics and they said it could be the engine mounts so i removed and replaced that and the tranny mount and the shake had decreased but was still significantly their .
Then i took off the valve cover and found a bent rod so i knew to replace it so i got a new one and instellad it checked all to make sure i didn't have another bend and started the truck well when i started and heard a knocking it sounded loud and constant drained the oil and put new oil in and could not figure it out
A knock like that can't be fixed outside of a teardown. If you bent a pushrod, it's because something hit that valve when it was open, and that would be a piston. You might save the block if you are lucky. Don't drive it anymore like that and you might also save the crank if it's the crank.
There are many upgrades available so consider them in your rebuild.
Or, you can call one of those donate charity places and send it down the road, or find a smog buyout deal and get some money....
If it's a rod, it's a major rebuild. If you installed the wrong length push rod, you can now have the valves hitting the top of the pistons. All this does is bend valves and bend push rods. Rods no not normally go that quick. The generally start with a low end hear knock and get louder as it goes. Now if you lost a oil pump and spun a bearing out, this can self destruct real quick. If you broke a piston you also get a terrible knock.
